Digicel Gerry Gomez Classic
December 30, 2009

South set 240 to win

With an entire day at their disposal today, South need 240 to win the Digicel Gerry Gomez North/South Classic.

North, who won the title for the last three years, were bowled out on the stroke of ten o'clock last night.

SCORES: North 384 and 216; South 361.

Queen's Park Cricket Club's batsman, Daron Cruickshank, was the only North batsman to counter the South attack on the third day. He scored an even 100 before he lost concentration and lifted an easy catch to short midwicket off the bowling of spinner Imran Khan.

Having failed in the first innings, Cruickshank was on a mission to address the selectors for the final time before the T&T is selected for the regional tournament starting on January 8. He mixed aggression with patience as the moved to his century.

He leapt for joy when he played Dave Mohammed to the midwicket area for a single to reach his milestone. Once again, promising T&T batsman, Lendl Simmons, failed to impress.

Opener Justin Guillen followed up his 73 in the first innings with another fine knock of 44 before he perished. South, led by T&T captain, Daren Ganga, kept the pressure up on North, realising that having conceded first innings, his team desperately needed to come from behind to take the trophy to the southland.

Khan was the best South bowler with 4 for 67.

Earlier yesterday, South's Sherwin Ganga ended on 107 not out as South tried to overhaul North's first inning score of 384.The South team fell 23 runs short.

Today promises to be an exciting one, with a great finish expected as South seek the 240 to win on a pitch which showed yesterday that it would keep low on the final day. Play starts at 2.30 pm with a minimum of 90 overs to be bowled.
