TTCB Results Guyana beat T&T in T20 charity match
GUYANA cruised to four-wicket victory over Trinidad and Tobago in the Twenty20 Charity Match held to raise funds for Haitian earthquake victims at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain on Wednesday night. Batting first Trinidad and Tobago scored a challenging total of 164 for five with opening batsmen Lendl Simmons leading the way with a swashbuckling innings of 83 runs. Next best batsman was fellow opener William Perkins who made 26. Guyana were never troubled in their run chase despite suffering a batting collapse which resulted in four wickets falling with only one run, and finished on 165 for six with four balls to spare. The opening pair of Sewnarine Chattergoon and Rajindra Chandrika gave the Guyanese a solid start which set up the calculated victory. They shared in an aggressive opening partnership of 76 runs which put the home team on the defensive. Chattergoon, who has been unable to retain his place on the national team was quite subdued compared to Chandrika who was brutal to pacer Ravi Rampaul hitting him for a massive six over cover. Trinidad and Tobago skipper Daren Ganga made several bowling changes in an effort to restrict Chandrika who continued to find the boundary with ease. He raced to his half century and continued to his offensive strokeplay before the partnership was broken when Chattergoon was spectacularly caught by Samuel Badree off the medium pace of Simmons for 26. Chandrinka continued to dominate the Trinidad and Tobago bowlers playing several elegant cut shots and drives but soon became Simmons' second wicket edging to wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin when on 67. The dismissal of Chandrika with the score on 106 would trigger a collapse in the 14th over as the toursits lost the wickets of Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin and Assad Fudadin slumping to 107 for five. However, Royston Crandon removed any fears of a Guyana defeat smashing off-spinner Sherwin Ganga for 18 runs in the next over and putting in his team in control. Crandon (R) and his brother Esuan then saw Guyana to victory. |
