‘El Do’ win again in schools cricket
February 9, 2010

EL DORADO East Secondary claimed their fourth successive victory in Division One of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket Championship yesterday.

The El Dorado lads blanked hosts Iere High School by 82 runs to continue their unbeaten start in the tournament.

Batting first after winning the toss, El Dorado were restricted to 221 runs for nine wickets off their mandatory 50 overs with West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Yannick Cariah top-scoring with 78 while Brian Christmas chipped in with 52.

Randy Narine claimed four wickets for 38 runs in 10 overs for Iere while Dennis Nandlal had 2/34.

Cariah returned with his leg-spin to claim 3/37 in 9.1 overs while Travis Karim had 3/30 in 10 as Iere were skittled out for 139 in 38.1 overs in reply.

Lendl Nelson (2/7) and Kern Matheson (2/40) were the other wicket-takers for El Dorado while Zachary Ragoonath (52) and Varindra Siew (27) were the leading lights in Iere’s batting effort.

Fatima College’s 100-percent record was snapped by Hillview College, who hammered their visitors by 111 runs.

Hillview posted 258/4 off their allotted 50 overs with Isaiah Rajah top-scoring with 86 while Marc Panchu added 70 and Dwane Coburn 68. Fatima, who were joint leaders with El Dorado at the start of yesterday’s action, offered little resistance to the Hillview bowling, as they were dismissed for 147.

In the two other Division One encounters, Toco Secondary edged Naparima College by six runs at Toco while Presentation College Chaguanas trounced the visiting Barrackpore West Secondary by 129 runs.

Matches in Round Five are carded for February 23.

At Chaguanas: PRESENTATION COLLEGE 216/5 (50 overs) - Keiron Joseph 98, Brian Charles 47 vs BARRACKPORE WEST SECONDARY 87 (26 overs) - Chris Ramnarine 4/34, Aleem Khan 3/17. Presentation won by 129 runs.

Union Claxton Bay won by six wickets.

At Manzanilla: SWAHA HINDU COLLEGE (135) - Ravi Khan 71; Kenson Joseph 4/9 vs MANZANILLA HIGH SCHOOL (139/1) - Steven Sooklal 54 not out, Oge Morales 35 not out, Calvin White 30. Manzanilla won by nine wickets.

At St Augustine: ST AUGUSTINE SECONDARY (137) - Joshua Seales 49 vs SHIVA BOYS HINDU COLLEGE (140/1). Shiva Boys won by nine wickets.
