TTCB – Results Caroni Cricket Association By STEPHON NICHOLAS THE Caroni Cricket Association held their Annual Prize Giving Ceremony last weekend at Presentation College, Chaguanas, distributing prizes and special awards for the 2009 season. Paradise received the cash prize, trophy and medals for winning the Warnerville Grains Mills Premiership Division. Back Street finished second while United were third. Santos received their award for their first place finish in the Felix Eastman Championship while Invincible and MYOA received their prizes for second and third respectively. Dudnath Ramkessoon, first vice president, Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), was among the guest speakers which also included Chaguanas Mayor Natasha Navas and Suruj Ragoonath, WIPA’s Cricket Development Officer. Vic Harry, secretary of the South East Zone, noted that the Under-17 competition which was introduced in 2001 to complement the Under-15 and Under-17 tournaments has become an overwhelming success. “Caroni Cricket Association believes that no sporting organisation can withstand the test of time without a foundation of young players. In all the youth competitions every youth player will receive a medal. Cricket is an exciting avenue to keep kids off the street and the ills of the world. “A cricket match takes an average of five hours to complete and for that length of time a player will be occupied in a healthy alternative,” he said. Harry explained that several individual awards were given for most runs, most wickets and other categories as incentives for the aspiring cricketers. He said that the 2009 season was a learning experience and helped strengthen the ties between the executive and clubs. The CCA is celebrating 33 years of existence and Harry noted that there is a lot to be proud about. “The CCA has provided avenues to countless persons in central Trinidad to play cricket and this has in no small measure contributed to the social and sporting development,” he said, “ it is our earnest desire to continue to serve cricket in TT but more specifically towards the improvement and development of cricket in central,” he added. Harry revealed plans to introduce and Under-13 competition this year and declared that significant resources will be utilised to ensure and exciting event. “We shall continue to work closely with the TTCB and continue to maintain the closest liaison with the many clubs we serve and look forward to continued support from our many sponsors. It is indeed gratifying to look back at the past 33 years and be able to say that great progress has been achieved,” Harry said. Honour Roll— BERT’S LIMITED OVERS - 1. United, 2. Ragoonanan Road, 3.
