TTCB – Results Merry Boys, PowerGen win outright CERAMIC MERRY Boys and reigning champs Powergen widened the gap with their eight other rivals after they each registered outright wins yesterday, in Round Four of the Eastern Credit Union-sponsored National Cricket League Premier Division. Merry Boys got their fourth straight victory of the campaign, hammering the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) by 10 wickets at O’Meara, Arima. Resuming the day on 215/7, and a 45-run lead, Merry Boys were bowled out for 283 with Kenton Thompson notching 85, while ex-TT and West Indies pacer Mervyn Dillon got 4/63, Emile Rajah 3/59 and Jahron Alfred 2/40 for UTT. In their second innings, UTT were unable to cope with Merry Boys captain Aneil Kanhai’s off-spin— he took 6/61 and Alcindo Holder 2/20 as UTT made 193. Alton Daniel made 50 for UTT while Satish Goolcharan and Christopher Seusankar each had 28 and Keon Isaac 20. Needing 81 for victory, national opener Lendl Simmons blasted 67 not out as Merry Boys made 84/0, and added 23 points for a total of 101, while UTT mustered only six points. Powergen notched their second straight win, this time by five wickets, against the struggling CLICO Preysal at Syne Village, Penal. Already taking a first innings lead, Powergen moved from 174/5 overnight to 275 with Trinidad and Tobago all-rounder Sherwin Ganga topscoring with 75 while Varoon Samaroo added 45. Christopher Ramsaran had 3/58 and national fast bowler Shannon Gabriel 2/46 for Preysal. Trailing by 132, Preysal made 210 in their second innings, with Videsh Sookhai hitting 96 and Shazam Babwah 45. A trio of left-arm spinners did the damage for Powergen - Rishi Bachan 3/22, Kavesh Kantasingh 2/21 and Dave Mohammed 2/57. Set a victory target of 79, Powergen reached 84/5 with openers Nicholas Sookdeosingh and Evin Lewis making 29 and 27 respectively for the hosts, who got 27, to carry their tally to 85. West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Yannic Cariah claimed 3/10 for Preysal, who got seven points from the game. Super Industrial Services Central Sports Invaders registered their first outright win of the season, spanking W Connection Wanderers by an innings and 62 runs at Gilbert Park, California. After skittling out Wanderers for 146 on Saturday, Central Sports, who ended the first day on 268/3, declared on 350/4 with St Lucian opener Keddy Lesporis, 145 overnight, making 165 while Navin Chan was unbeaten on 41. Mark Deyal got 2/79 for Wanderers. Another St Lucian and Windward Islands representative, left-arm spinner Gary Mathurin, copped 4/26, for a match haul of 10/86, as Wanderers were dismissed for 142 in their second innings. Anthony George got 2/15 for Central Sports, who added 29 points to their tally, while national all-rounder Navin Stewart offered lone resistance with 54 for the hosts, who got one point after their third straight defeat in the season. As expected, First Citizens Clarke Road thrashed Rahamut’s Evergreen SC by an innings and 185 runs at Wilson Road, Penal. After Evergreen were bundled out for 73, the hosts replied with an imposing 363/2 declared while Evergreen ended the day on 55/2, 235 in arrears. But Windward Islands and St Vincent left-arm pacer Deighton Butler tore through the Evergreen batting, taking 6/43 for match figures of 10/73. Former national off-spinner Mukesh Persad grabbed 3/21 for Clarke Road while Guyanese Steven Jacobs offered lone resistance with 38. Clarke Road tallied 29 points and Evergreen none. The only game which finished as a draw was the Alescon Comets-Queen’s Park fixture at Pierre Road, Charlieville, with the Parkites claiming first innings points. Resuming on 95/3, in response to the Parkites’ first innings score of 307, the hosts were dismissed for 243 with national off-spinners Amit Jaggernauth and Sunil Narine taking 5/83 and 3/77 respectively. Barbadian Jevon Searles, who was 59 overnight, made 74 for Comets while ex-national all-rounder Rayad Emrit made 33, Greg Yacoob 28 not out and former West Indies and TT opener Suruj Ragoonath 26. In their second innings, Queen’s Park were dismissed for 217 with a quartet of national players leading the way - Narine (53), Jaggernauth and Daron Cruickshank (50) and Dwayne Bravo (40), while Barbadian Carlos Brathwaite chipped in with 33. Imran Khan took 3/76 for Comets while Searles got 2/17, Emrit 2/23 and Magnum Nanan 2/74. The Parkites walked away with 19 points and Comets 12. Round Five action will be contested on March 13 and 14.
