T20 champs PowerGen crush Valiants
March 10, 2010

DEFENDING champions PowerGen started their Carib Twenty20 title defence with a crushing 96-run win over Valiants Sports in Group “A” yesterday at Syne Village in Penal.

PowerGen batting first got contributions from several of their top order batsman to post a challenging total of 186 from 20 overs. Gibran Mohammed struck an aggressive knock of 42 with West Indies Under-19 batsman Evin Lewis stroking 31.

There were also useful contributions by Rondell Ramlochan (30), Varoon Samaroo (28) and Sherwin Ganga (26). Valiants struggled in their turn at the crease with left-arm spinner Dave “Tadpole” Mohammed taking three for seven to do the major damage. Valiants were eventually dismissed for 90.

In the other Group “A”, Rahamut’s Evergreen secured a 18- run win over Woodland Sports Club in Woodland. Evergreen made 164 with Kevin Bissondial smashing 36 runs.

Woodland in reply were guided by Kevin Celestine scoring 35 runs. However, the Evergreen bowlers sealed the victory with an accurate line and length with Woodland being dismissed for 146.
