Penal Sports U-16 cricket gets going
March 12, 2010

PENAL Sports Association, regarded as the most vibrant minor league cricket organisation in the country launched their ninth annual Under-16 competition last Saturday with two matches played simultaneously, one at the La Fortune Recreation Ground and the other at the St Croix Recreation Ground.

At La Fortune, the home team battled against PCO of Masahood, bowling them out for 201 runs in 21 overs, but in reply were dismissed for 101 in 17 overs.

Fifteen-year-old Stephan Seepersad scored a brilliant 79 for the winning team, supported by Sadir Meharsan who chipped in with a well-played 38 not out. Meharsan starred again, finishing with bowling figures of 4/20.

STX of St Croix, playing on their home ground crushed the La Romain Avengers. Batting first they scored 198 in their allocated 25 overs. In reply, the boys from La Romain were bowled out for a paltry 109 in 16 overs.

The Penal Sports Association is the only local organisation which organises an inter-club Under-16 competition. Seven teams are participating in the competition this year. Players must be born after August 31, 1994 to participate.

Out of a total of $2,500 in cash prizes, at the end of the round-robin, the team placing first will receive $500 and the runners-up $250 and both qualify for the Big 4.

At the end of the Big 4 the winners will receive $750, the runners-up get $500 and the two losing semi-finalists $250 each.
