Smith hits brilliant 101 in Southern Sunday League
March 22, 2010

NAZARITES Sports have 12 points from seven matches in Southern Sports Sunday Cricket League

TEENAGE batsman Ihley Smith struck a brilliant century for his team Nazarites Sports and put them within touching distance of the $25,000 prize money in the Champions Division of this year’s General Earth Movers Limited-sponsored Southern Sports Sunday Cricket League.

Smith, 19, blasted seven sixes and nine fours in his 101 and with Rocky McIntosh 61 not out, featured in an unbeaten opening stand of 169 to eclipse Rebels 166 for eight wickets.

Nazarites have accumulated 12 points after seven matches in the division.

Marcelle Jones hit 125 for Quakers Sports in their 14-run victory over Starwars Sports in a Parkway Pharmacy Saturday T20 League.

And Ricky Deolal scored 101 for Hard Target but saw his team beaten by one run by Gandhi United in a Champions Division thriller.

Needing four runs in the last over, Hard Target lost three wickets in four balls while scoring just two runs leaving them two short of their winning target off the last ball.

Needing just one run to tie the scores and give Hard Target a victory by losing less wickets, batsman Larry Harripersad pushed to long-on and darted to the other end but Kenneth Ramkissoon became a big hero, hitting the stumps with a direct throw to run out Harripersad leaving Hard Target on 237 for eight wickets replying to Gandhi United’s 238 for nine.

But Surprise Sports’s Kumar Narine missed a century by four runs, reaching 96 in his team’s 340 for five and victory against La Romain Avengers who were bowled out for 171 in their Division One match.

Also missing hundreds were Dale Barran who reached 90 for Buen Intento against Reform Youths, and Sterlin Heeralal who got 93 for Survivors against All Apaches Sports.

There was also a close finish in the Division One match between Pond Boys who were all out for 188 and Hardbargain Sports who reached 191 for nine, winning by one wickets.

Golconda United (117 for eight wickets) scraped home by two wickets over Young Guns (114 all out) in Division One.

And Gandhi Rebels who reached 224 for seven, got home by three wickets over Reform United who totalled 219 for seven in their Champions Division match.
