Parkites humiliate Evergreen; champs PowerGen in control
April 10, 2010

RUNAKO MORTON in West Indies colours

QUEEN’S PARK inflicted a humiliating day on Rahamut’s Evergreen on the opening day of the two-day Ninth Round of action in the Eastern Credit Union-sponsored National Cricket League Premiership Division.

At the Queen’s Park Oval yesterday, Evergreen were bundled out for 29 in 14 overs while the Parkites amassed a whopping 473 in response.

In the morning session, Keron Cooper snared five wickets for nine runs, including a hat-trick, in six overs, while Barbadian Carlos Brathwaite took 4/14 in seven overs and, in his only over, national all-rounder Daron Cruickshank had 1/5.

The Parkites’ batsmen feasted on the Evergreen’s offerings, with former West Indies batsman Runako Morton blazing his way to 157, with 10 fours and three sixes, while Cooper had eight fours in his knock of 96.

National youth team opener Nicholas Alexis made 87 while the national pair of Justin Guillen and Cruickshank hitting 55 and 42 respectively. Jon-Ross Jagessar collected 4/86 and Jovan Ali 2/93 for the visitors.

Leaders and defending champs PowerGen holds the advantage over SIS Central Sports Invaders at Syne Village, Penal.

Sent into bat, the hosts posted 329 with West Indies Under-19 opener Evin Lewis making a stroke-filled 138 while Samuel Badree (48 not out), Nicholas Sookdeosingh (37), Sherwin Ganga (30) and Rondell Ramlochan (26) chipped in. Adesh Dass (4/66), Daren Mahadeo (2/38) and Narendra Bridgelal (2/105) did the damage for Central Sports.

Ex-national left-arm spinners Dave Mohammed (2/21) and Rishi Bachan (2/29) took the wickets as Central Sports replied with 143/4. Denzil James hit 52 and Keddy Lesporis 38 for the visitors while the unbeaten pair are Troy Cornelius (24) and Dass (20).

Barbadian Alcindo Holder continued his consistency with a top-score of 111 as Ceramic Merry Boys took the upper-hand over the visiting CLICO Preysal at the St Mary’s Ground, St Clair.

Holder got support from ex-national batsmen Lincoln Roberts (59) and Mario Belcon (41) as Merry Boys declared their first innings on 308/8. Left-arm spinner Nicholas Ramjass had 3/62 and West Indies Under-19 leg-spinning all-rounder Yannic Cariah 3/77.

Preysal ended the day on 52/2, despite 27 from Kjorn Ottley, with veteran Aneil Kanhai taking 2/9 with his off-breaks.

Alescon Comets secured first innings points against W Connection Wanderers as 20 wickets fell at Gilbert Park, California.

Javed Ramdhanie grabbed 5/67 and Omesh Ramoutar 2/21 as the visiting Comets outfit were bowled out for 225, despite useful scores from Barbadian Kevin Stoute (48), Adrian Ali (38), ex-TT all-rounder Rayad Emrit (32), Javon Searles (28) and West Indies ‘A’ team selectee Imran Khan (27).

But Wanderers were troubled by the combined spin of Khan and Magnum Nanan as they were dismissed for 173. Left-arm spinner Nanan had 4/31 and Khan 4/52 with his leg-breaks, and Barbadian pacer Searles got 2/34.

Guyanese all-rounder Christopher Barnwell offered main resistance with 76 while David Livingston and Ramoutar chipped in with 23 and 20 respectively.

Cellar-placed University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and hosts First Citizens Clarke Road are in a neck-and-neck battle for first innings points at Wilson Road, Penal.

UTT were dismissed for 182 with ex-national leg-spinner Sanjiv Gooljar wrecking havoc with 6/43 while left-arm spinner Dane Teelucksingh grabbed 3/49.

Satish Goolcharan made 56 for the visitors while Alden Daniel struck 49 and Kevon Isaac 24.

Clarke Road were precariously placed at 173/9 at the close, with Emile Rajah snaring 3/49. Dion Bennett (49), Gregory Mahabir (34) and Deighton Butler (21) were the main scorers for Clarke Road.

Today’s second and final day of action will bowl off at 9.30 am.
