Guaracara Park: Trinidad and Tobago easily defeated an Academy XI on Tuesday in the opening match of the T20 Cricket Festival.

Batting first TT rattled up 172 for three wickets with "Man of the Match" Darren Bravo hitting an undefeated 75 with five fours and two sixes.

TT skipper Daren Ganga also made a solid 43 while Denesh Ramdin played an entertaining cameo of 37 of just 16 balls.

Pick of the Academy bowlers was Daniel St Clair who took two wickets for 34 runs off four overs.

Chasing 173 for victory the inexperienced Academy side were bogged down by tight bowling from Ravi Rampaul and Samuel Badree.

They lost wickets at regular intervals with only Nicholas Sookdeosingh showing any resistance with a well-played 27 including a four and a six as they finished on 94 for five to lose by 78 runs.

Rampaul collected three for 13 in three overs bowling with pace and menace.
